Conservation Safari: Patagonia through the eyes of the puma

In the vastness of the Patagonian steppe, dawn brings with it the whisper of wildlife awakening. The puma, an emblematic yet elusive feline, roams these territories as part of the living landscape of Estancia Cerro Guido. Here, we don’t just observe it: we work to protect it.

History of the Puma Project / Cerro Guido Conservation Foundation

Since 2019, the Cerro Guido Conservation Foundation has taken a step forward in protecting native species under the inspiring leadership of Pía Vergara. The Puma Project was created to generate knowledge, use modern tools such as camera traps, GPS, and guard dogs, and promote harmonious coexistence between traditional livestock farming and wildlife. The goal: to stop the puma from being seen as a threat and turn it into a symbolic ally in conservation.

Conservation Safari: unique experiences

With the Conservation Safari, we invite you to join the team of trackers at dawn, check camera traps, observe wildlife with binoculars, and see the guard dogs in action. This excursion allows you to explore conservation areas, learn about protocols, hear stories, and observe actual evidence of puma presence.

Visitor’s Guide

  • The Conservation Safari can be half-day or full-day; ideal for those who want an immersive experience.
  • Wear comfortable clothing, resistant footwear, binoculars (these are provided by the guides), camera, sunscreen, and a jacket for the cool morning.
  • Act respectfully: remain quiet, keep your distance from wildlife, and follow the guide’s instructions.
  • Actively participate in the project, learning from trackers how they protect the puma and promote coexistence.

The puma is not just a wild species that can be glimpsed at dawn: it is a story of resilience, a bridge between the ancestral and the modern. At Estancia Cerro Guido, we invite you to be part of the Conservation Safari, to learn about the work led by the Cerro Guido Conservation Foundation, and to build together a future where wildlife lives in harmony and respect.

Important:

  • The Full Day Conservation Safari is not included in the All Inclusive Shared program, but you can book it at an additional cost.

  • It is included in the All Inclusive Private program.

  • The Half Day Conservation Safari is included in both programs.

Discover this unique experience and explore Patagonia from a conservation perspective.
